Meet Your Trainer
Hello! Welcome to the Math‑U‑See Online Registered Instructor Course. My name is Abby Franco, and I am the Training Specialist at Demme Learning. This course is designed to help you begin the process of supporting with fidelity students who are using the Math‑U‑See program. You can email me your questions at trainer@demmelearning.com, and you can generally expect a response within 48 hours. I am excited to be working with you as you gain confidence and knowledge of the possibilities of the Math‑U‑See program.
Please read the following Tips for Success to learn how to get the most benefit from this course.
Tips for Success
Tip #1: Gather all necessary materials.
Each Lesson Overview page will contain a list of materials you will need. Make sure that you have gathered all those items before starting the first assignment. This will help to minimize interruptions and distractions, allowing you to complete the lesson more efficiently.
Tip #2: Find the right environment.
Some assignments may require you to use the manipulatives. You will need plenty of room to build and write the problems. For other assignments, your computer (or mobile device) may be all you will use. Try to find a space that will offer you the most comfort and productivity for each task.
Tip #3: Fully engage in the Build, Write, Say process.
Math‑U‑See is a unique program, but this difference is a large part of what makes it successful! Central to its effectiveness is the Build, Write, Say process. As the trainer demonstrates concepts, use the manipulatives to build along. Additionally, model writing and verbalizing exactly as you would when teaching the concept to your students. Building is not enough! Correct and consistent verbalization is important for assisting your students in making accurate conceptual connections.
Tip #4: Consider using the “buddy system.”
If possible, consider teaming up with another person as you work through the course. Not only is the experience likely to be more enjoyable with a partner, but the interactions will also offer you greater perspective and will definitely make manipulative practice more meaningful. Of course, unless otherwise noted, assignment submissions should be completed individually. If your situation will not allow working through assignments regularly with a partner, at least try to schedule manipulative practice with another person.
